Tours - 2006  |  Paddling along Kerzenets

Paddling along KerzenetsSpend an unforgettable fortnight paddling along one of the most beautiful small Russian rivers - Kerzenets. Admire picturesque villages and enjoy short walks in the woods. Revel in the company of english-speaking students and have a great time worth remembering in the monotony of everyday routine!

The Kerzhenets is one of the most picturesque tributaries of the Volga. The tour starts at 150 km from N. Novgorod. The Upper Kerzhenets flows through mixed forests and meadows, the Middle and Lower Kerzhenets - through mixed and pine forests - the taiga. The Kerzhenets is 10 - 50 m wide and 1 - 1,5 m deep. The water is almost drinkable. There is a lot of fish. On the left bank of he Middle Kerzhenets there is the state reservation “Kershenets”

Our group picks up all the floating rubbish, mostly plastics. The rubbish is partly utilized and buried. The last boats go on absolutely clean water.
2-3 days while in the middle waters the tourists paddle independently since this part of the river is far off roads and villages.

All the food and outfit is carried in the boats. The tourists cook on the fire (those who cannot, learns how to do it), sleep in tents.

One should take with him only dishes , a sleeping-bag, a mat, articles of personal hygiene, a repellent.

In Russia such tours are called ‘active’, in the West - ‘adventure’.
